3. Better to use the special detergent. The poultry feather within down jackets is protein fiber, if use soap or ordinary washing powder to clean (mustn’t use washing powder with enzyme detergent), because of the strong alkaline, it will make the down to lose the softness, elastic and shine to become dry, hard and aging, thus shorten the life of the down jacket. Therefore, better to use special detergent when wash down jacket. If you don’t have special detergents then use a mild detergent. If you accidentally use alkaline detergent, the residue is prone to leave white marks on the surface. If you want to get rid of the marks, you can add two teaspoons of vinegar in warm water after rinsing twice, then soap the down jacket for a while before rinsing, for the vinegar can neutralize alkaline detergent.
